When is it mandatory to wear safety glasses?

If you work in an environment where you work with materials that can cause splinters or where you work with hazardous substances, safety glasses are mandatory. There are also often stickers at these locations that indicate that it is mandatory to wear safety glasses. If these stickers are not present, it is still possible that the obligation of safety glasses has been established by the Working Conditions Act. Employers usually decide whether employees are required to wear safety glasses. Inquire carefully with your employer about this.

Activities can cause three types of hazard, namely chemical hazard, mechanical hazard and radiation hazard.

  • Chemical hazard - When harmful liquids, vapors or gases can enter the eye.
  • Mechanical hazard - Caused by splinters or loose dust particles.
  • Radiation hazard - When eyes are exposed to ultraviolet or infrared radiation.
