Do I need new glasses? 9 signs to watch out for

Did you know that our eyes change over time? What started with sharp vision can worsen unnoticed and result in symptoms such as headache, eye fatigue, and light sensitivity. This not only affects your vision, but also your daily comfort and productivity. So, do I need a new pair of glasses? When can you be sure it's time to replace your glasses? Read on for nine common signs:

1. Your vision is blurry

Blurred vision is often the first sign of changing vision. It can indicate a variety of eye disorders:

  • Myopia
You have trouble seeing in the distance, like reading street names while driving.
  • Farsightedness
Nearby objects, such as books or your phone, are harder to see.
  • Presbyopia
From the age of forty, you can suffer from “old-age farsightedness”. Do you notice that you have to keep a menu or your phone further away to read the text? Then this is a clear signal.

2. You always squint

Do you often squint to sharpen your vision? This is a signal that your eyes have to work hard to compensate for changing vision. Squeezing can temporarily help, but it also causes extra eye fatigue and can cause headaches. It's time to go to the optician.

3. Sensitivity to light

Light sensitivity, or photophobia, may indicate a cylinder anomaly (astigmatism). Especially when your eyes react quickly to bright light, adapted glasses can make the difference. Moreover, with age, we often need more time to switch from light to dark. A good one prescription sunglasses can also offer a solution here, especially when it comes to outdoor activities and driving.

4. Tired or sore eyes

Tired or even sore eyes can be caused by prolonged focus on screens, texts, or even during long car journeys. This can cause:

  • Computer Vision Syndrome — by watching digital screens for a long time without pauses.
  • Inadequate eye protection — such as when working without special screen glasses.

One prescription screen glasses provides a sharp view behind your computer, tablet or smartphone. Whichever strength you have, the special glass reduces the strain on your eyes and makes them less likely to tire.

5. Headaches and pressure behind the eyes

Do you often have headaches, especially around the temples or behind your eyes? This can be a result of eyes having to work too hard to see properly. When your eyes constantly have to correct, pressure builds up unconsciously. Headaches that specifically occur after activities such as reading, computing or driving can be treated with appropriate glasses.

6. Double vision

Double vision, or diplopia, occurs when your eyes are unable to focus properly and therefore do not form a sharp image. This may indicate strabismus or another condition, such as a cylinder anomaly. Prism glasses can help with this by bringing both eyes back in line so that you can see clearly again.

7. Night vision problems

Night vision loss is common as we age. Do you have trouble seeing in dark environments or do you find yourself bothered by halos around lights while driving in the dark? This may indicate a cylinder anomaly or even starting cataracts. At Seeh, you can have glasses specially designed to improve night vision, with an anti-reflective coating, for example.

8. You haven't had your eyes checked in over a year

Regular eye tests, at least every two years, are important for maintaining optimal vision and detecting any changes in time. Often, changes in strength can occur unnoticed. And when it comes to safety glasses, it's extra important to ensure that the lenses still function properly and pose no risk in the workplace. At Seeh, we work with Hans Anders for periodic measurements, so you always have the right view and are well protected.

9. Your glasses are damaged

Scratches, damage and dirt that can't be cleaned anymore? These are signs that your glasses need to be replaced. Even minor scratches can negatively affect your vision. Or the coating of the glasses may be damaged and the glass may cloud. Damaged lenses distort light and can cause headaches or other discomfort. For prescription safety glasses It is true that damage can also be a risk while working — after all, clear vision means working safely.

Time for a new pair of glasses?

Do you recognize yourself in one or more of these signals? Then it's time for a new pair of glasses. A new pair of glasses can offer more than just clear vision; it also increases your comfort, safety and confidence. The expert opticians at Hans Anders are happy to help you make your choice. Make an appointment for a measurement and advice, and experience the benefits of clear vision without compromise!
