Screen glasses, also necessary in healthcare

Working in health care involves specific risks. Physical strain, aggression, violence and intimidation, radiation, but also complaints that can arise from computer screen work are increasingly a problem in healthcare.
These include reduced vision, fatigue, headaches or neck pain, burning eyes but also insomnia. Because the eyelids hardly blink during intensive screen work, the eyeball becomes too dry and eye fatigue can occur.

Screen glasses are intended to increase comfort when working at a computer screen and to prevent or minimise complaints. In such cases, screen glasses offer a solution. But what are screen glasses?

What are screen glasses?

Screen glasses are glasses that provide optimal vision when you do screen work. The glasses are specially made for comfortable near, middle and far vision. This ensures that your vision is sharp and that you have a good working posture at the computer. This is in contrast to the regular progressive glasses and reading glasses, with which you can adopt an incorrect posture behind the computer, which can then result in neck and shoulder complaints, among other things.

Screen glasses are not meant to replace everyday glasses, nor do they offer protection against risks such as external impact. For this, our safety glasses are ideally suited.

When do you need screen glasses?

  • You work behind a screen a lot
  • You have tired/dry eyes at the end of the day
  • You have neck, shoulder or back pain
  • You have a headache after working behind a screen

What is the role of the health care authority/employer in this?

Computer work must not pose a risk to the employee who performs this screen work. Employers are therefore obliged, by law, to exclude this risk. This can be done by offering appropriate screen glasses to employees. Employees who need reading glasses and perform computer work are entitled to computer glasses, reimbursed by their employer. This also applies to employees who need screen glasses and work an average of more than two hours a day in front of a screen.

Arrangement for reimbursement of screen glasses

The law requires employers to offer employees the opportunity to undergo an eye examination prior to work or in the event of eye complaints. They should include this in their terms of employment, as well as well as an arrangement for the reimbursement for computer glasses, if necessary.
